What is recorded here

A roughly circular enclosure (diam. 25-30m), marked ‘Pound’, incorporated on the W arc into the townland boundary, is shown on an estate map (NLI Ms. No. 2713) drawn up in 1811 for Sir Robert Lynch-Blosse. It is not indicated on the 1838 and 1916 OS 6-inch maps, although the semi-circular arc in the townland boundary is shown. The enclosure is defined at SE–N by the townland boundary which consists of an earthen bank (Wth c. 1.4m; H 1.4m) with a field ditch (Wth 1.2m) on the inner edge of the arc. The enclosing element at NE−E has been levelled to a slight curving undulation. The level interior is not noticeably raised. There is a gate in the bank at SW leading to a farm road which skirts the W side of the enclosure. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 September 2022
