The 1838 OS Letters record a tradition first noted in the 17th century that the Augustinian Friary (MA093-063002-) of Ballyhaunis was founded on the site of ‘a manor house of the Lord Barry, about the beginning of the English Invasion.’ (O’Flanagan 1927, 162 (394)). No convincing evidence has been found to corroborate this.
