What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a rise, in undulating terrain. Good views in general, restricted now to S−SE by field fences. Raised circular area (38m NE–SW; 37.5m NW–SE) defined by a scarp (H 1.3-1.5m at SE–S, 0.8m at N), outside which it is enclosed at E–S by a fosse (Wth 3.3m) evident as a shallow depression. Remnants of an external bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.35m at NNE), incorporated into a later field fence, survive at S-SW. The enclosure is crossed slightly SE of centre by a field fence on a NE–SW axis. The interior slopes down gently from NE. There is an entrance gap (Wth c. 2m) at SE with a well-defined causeway across the fosse. The perimeter is ringed with hawthorn and ash trees; the interior is covered in long grass and thistles. Another rath (MA093-032----), visible from this one, is located 100m to WNW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 23 June 2022
