What is recorded here

Located at the base of a ridge slope, in a 20m wide margin of rough, wet pasture and reeds, bordering the W shore of Derrykin Lough. This burnt mound appears to have been partly levelled. The remains are visible as a low mound (max. dim. c. 15m), irregular in shape and of uncertain extent, covered in hummocky grass, located 3m from current shoreline of the lake. A central raised core (c. 7m NW–SE; c. 5m NE–SW; H 0.5m) is surrounded on all sides by a low spread of angular stone and charcoal fragments. Another burnt mound (MA092-110----) is located on the same shoreline c. 60m to NW. A possible crannóg (MA092-089----) is indicated on the 1838 map in Derrykin Lough close to this location, and another possible crannóg (MA092-027----) is shown in the lake c. 70m to NW. There is a rath (MA092-026----) c. 180m to WNW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 25 May 2022
