Within an enclosure (MA087-043001-), on the W shoulder of Croagh Patrick. This penitential station is one of three close-set cairns, collectively known by the traditional name of Roilig Mhuire, which form part of the ‘Turas’ or traditional pilgrimage route on Croagh Patrick.
Mound (12.6m NE–SW; 10m NW–SE; H 1.9m) of loose stones, pear-shaped in plan. This is the largest of the three cairns. The two other penitential stations/cairns (MA087-043004-; MA087-043005-) are located 3m and 10m to NE, respectively. The outer mantle of each cairn is composed of loose small stones, most likely placed on the cairns by pilgrims, and a loose spread of stones around the base of each cairn is probably the result of slippage and pilgrim activity.
