Fulacht fia in Lecarrow (murrisk By.)

Situated on the southern bank of stream c. 37.5m S of MA085-005004-. Situated on a gently sloping NW- facing slope that is, in part, the flood plain of the stream marked ‘Pollbrandy’ on Ordnance Survey maps. The fulacht fia consists of a horseshoe-shaped mound (NW–SE c. 7.7m, NE–SW c. 5.20m) opening to ENE, towards the stream. The prominent northern arm, on which burnt stone is exposed, contrasts with the low and fairly indeterminate southern arm. The eastern tip of the southern arm is cut across by an earthen field bank running on a NNW–SSE axis. There is a slight saddle between both mounds at SE, beyond which both mounds fade out almost imperceptibly into the surrounding land. Although a number of large stones are visible in the field. A bank where it touches the southern and northern arms of the mound, these do not appear to be part of the fulacht fia. However, one set stone 1m (L 0.25m), on the north-eastern side at the base of the northern arm, could conceivably be part of an external revetment.
