House — indeterminate date in Bunnamohaun

Situated on the commonage on the south- ern mid-slopes of Knockmore. It lies at the western end of a relatively flat, stone-free terrace-like area. A stream runs by c. 15m to SW and a hut lies 25m to SE. The remains comprise the poorly defined grassy foundations of a subrectangular house (4.7m WNW–ESE, 2.7m NNE–SSW). It is delimited by a much degraded bank that presents an almost oval plan externally but defines a sub- rectangular space internally. The bank’s grassy surface is not more than 0.2m high internally and 0.3m externally. A gap (Wth 0.7m) about mid- point along the north-north-eastern side probably represents the entrance. A small roughly square annexe (L 2m × Wth 2m) adjoins the house on the north-north-eastern side. It is defined only by the shadow of a bank save on the south-south-west- ern side, where it adjoins the house. The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island.
