House — indeterminate date in Bunnamohaun

Situated at the western foot of a high cliff at closed northern end of a small valley in the extreme south-western part of the island. The valley opens out to S and SW, towards the sea cliffs. The house consists of a very poorly defined rectangular structure (L 6.2m, W c.1.7m internally), its long axis running NNW–SSE. Its whole east- north-eastern side is obscured by scree from the cliff face in the form of small stones and boulders. Along its west-south-western side it is defined by a jumble of stones, among which a possible inner drystone revetment (H 0.2m) is discernible. A large cracked upright boulder (0.9m × c. 0.6m, H 0.6m) at the south-south-eastern end possibly marks its southern limits: a second stone in line with it is almost totally obscured by the scree. At the house’s northern end, part of a possible inner revetment (L 1.6m × H 0.1m) is also visible. No trace of any entrance noted. The above description is derived from: New Survey of Clare Island.
