What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a slight rise, overlooked to E by a higher ground. This rath is shown on the1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular ringfort-sized enclosure; it is not shown on the 1930 edition. It has been levelled. The barely discernible outline of a roughly circular area (diam. c. 20m) defined by a bank, outside which there is a fosse with an external bank, can still be traced. The inner bank is evident as a very low rise (Wth c. 1.7m), the fosse as a slight depression (W c. 1.8m) and the outer bank as a barely discernible undulation (Wth c. 1.8m). At W and S the remains of the fosse and external bank merge to form a low terrace (Wth c. 3.5m). The interior is level. A slightly raised linear feature (W 3m; H 0.2m) extends from close to the bank at E into the interior for 7m to WSW, possibly the remnant of a field boundary. At SE a shallow hollow/area of disturbance (diam. 4-4.5m) cuts across the inner bank. There is a cashel (MA072-022----) 200m to E, a rath (MA072-019001-) 220m to NNW and an enclosure (MA072-021001-) c. 100m to S. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 March 2021
