What is recorded here

In pasture, with rising ground immediately to W. There is a small river 250m to S. An oval embanked enclosure (c. 25m NE−SW; c. 20m NW−SE), with a field boundary abutting its NE edge, is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; by the time of the 1931 edition, only the SE half of the enclosure is depicted, incorporated into field boundaries at NE and at E. The outline of a subcircular or oval area (diam. 25-28m) is barely discernible. Part of the NE arc survives as a stone-faced scarp (H 1.2m) incorporated into the line of a WNW−ESE field boundary. The E arc has been levelled to a slight stony rise, and the W−NW arc can be traced as a slight curving undulation. The interior is fairly level, and does not appear raised relative to exterior ground level. On the date of inspection, much of the enclosure was obscured beneath heaps of field clearance debis. A rath (MA071-097----) is located 60m to E. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 August 2021
