What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a ridge, with a gradual fall of ground towards a stream 150m to SW. This rath remains well defined on the W half but has been levelled on the E half. Slightly raised circular area (42.4m N−S; c. 42 E−W) defined on the W half by a scarp (H 2.5m; Wth slope 3.7m at W), levelled on the E half to a slight rise/undulation, and enclosed by a fosse and external bank. The scarp has been modified to serve as a field boundary on the W arc. The fosse (Wth 4m) and external bank (Wth 5.7m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 1.8m) are well defined at SSW−NW; the fosse can be traced at NW−N as a shallow depression and the outer bank as an ephemeral undulation. A road truncates the fosse and outer bank at NE−E. A remnant of the outer bank is also evident as a slight undulation at SE. Interior ground level rises slightly in the NW quadrant. According to local information, there is a souterrain (MA071-004001-) in the interior. The rath is ringed with hawthorn. There are raths (MA071-002----; MA071-003----) 200m to NNE and 190m to NE, respectively. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 24 June 2021
