What is recorded here

In a thicket of overgrowth, located on a low rise in an area of undulating average pasture. There is a fall of ground to S for c. 300m towards a stream valley. Broadly oval area (c. 27m NW–SE; c. 32m NE–SW) defined at E–SW by sod-covered stony scarp (Wth c. 1-1.1m), which has been incorporated into a later field wall on the SW arc; at WSW−NE by a scarp, which retains a slightly raised stony internal rim (Wth 2-3m) and is faced externally with drystone walling. Outside the scarp at WNW–NE there is an outer enclosing drystone wall (Wth 1.2m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 1.3m). The intervening gap (Wth 3m) between it and the inner scarp/wall appears to be a terrace rather than a sunken fosse, and varies in width from its narrowest point of 1.4m at WNW, where it intersects with a field fence, to a width of 3m at NE. It is uncertain if this outer wall is original to the ringfort or merely a later field wall. The enclosure is bisected slightly NW of centre by a property wall on a ENE–WSW axis. A shallow, oval stony depression (6m NE–SW; 2m NW–SE; D 0.3m) in NW half of the interior is overlain by the property wall. In the SE half of the interior, there is an irregular-shaped hollow (4m E–W; 3m N–S; D 0.5m). The interior is engulfed in overgrowth and the perimeter is densely ringed with blackthorn. There is a possible cashel (MA062-130----) located c. 250m to SW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 January 2021
