What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a rise in gently undulating terrain. There is a natural basin of wettish ground c. 50m to SW–W. Raised oval area (35.5m N–S; c. 25.5m E–W) defined S–NE by a scarp (H c. 1.5m at S; 1.8m at W); the scarp is levelled on the E half. At S the scarp has been subsumed into a linear NW–SE field wall; at W the scarp has an almost vertical drop (H 1.7-1.8m) and is faced with drystone walling; at W–N remnants of a field fence merges with the base of the external slope of the scarp, respecting its curve; at NE the scarp retains a slight internal stony lip, incorporating field clearance stones in parts. At E–S the scarp is levelled to a broadly slumped slope (Wth c. 7m; drop in height c. 1m). There is a souterrain (MA062-114002-) in the N half of the interior, indicated by three adjacent areas of surface collapse. In the S part of the interior there is a small roughly circular depression (1.2m NW−SE; 0.8m NE−SW; D 0.5m) of uncertain significance. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 January 2021
