What is recorded here

In pasture, located on top of a knoll, with very good views in all directions but overlooked c. 30m at SSW by a higher knoll, on top of which there is a possible house site (MA062-066----). This rath is depicted on the 1838 and 1919 OS 6-inch maps as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m). It has been almost entirely destroyed by quarrying, leaving only an arc of raised ground (L c. 22-24m SW–NNE; Wth c. 5m E-W to the quarry edge) on the W edge of the quarry pit. All that remains, therefore, is the SW-NW edge of the rath, including the curving perimeter scarp (ext. H 2m) and a narrow strip (max. Wth 5m) of the interior, from which there is a steep drop of several meters into the quarry pit. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 5 November 2018
