What is recorded here

In pasture, located immediately to S of a spring. A road (N26) borders the N side of the field. This fulacht fia was discovered during archaeological test trenching (Licence no. 19E0201) in advance of a road realignment scheme (Gillespie 2019). It consists of a subsurface layer or mound (6.5m E-W; 11.5m N-S; D c. 1m) of heat-shattered stone fragments in a charcoal-rich soil matrix, which appears to rest on natural boulder clay. A later curving field drain cuts across the N edge of the mound. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 January 2022
