Set upright in the centre of the flat top of a modern stone-built altar (MA053-003002-). This uninscribed stone slab (H c. 0.42m; max Wth 0.3m; T 0.1m) has a splayed rounded top narrowing to a ‘waist’ from which the stone splays again to a base concealed within the top of the stone altar. This figure of eight shape gives the stone a roughly cross-like appearance. The provenance and date of the stone are unknown. An account of an ‘Altar of the penal days’, consisting of ‘a heap of stones’, which stood at this location in the early 1940’s makes no mention of this slab (O’Kelly 1942, 3). According to local information, the altar in which it is currently set was constructed in the 1960’s.
