What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a rise with a fall of ground to S−SW, overlooking an area of lowlying damp ground. An oval embanked enclosure (diam. 25-30 E−W; c. 20m N−S) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on the 1922 edition. The enclosure has been partly levelled. A low semicircular raised area (27m ESE−WSW; 15.4m N−S) can be traced, defined on the curving side at E−WSW by a levelled scarp (Wth slope 6.6m; H 1.3m at S), merging with a natural slope. It is cut at W by a field fence on a NE−SW axis. At N it is bordered by a field fence on a roughly E−W axis, which appears to respect or retain the original N−NNE arc of the enclosure. There is a rath (MA040-051----) 30m to NW and an enclosure (MA040-052----) 45m to E. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 May 2020
