In pasture, located on a low rise on the N boundary of Carrowcrom townland. There is a small river 25m to N; the townland boundary coincides with the course of the river. The Ox Mountains define the skyline to E and Nephin Mountain is visible to SW.
Indicated as 'Standing Stone' on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps, this imposing stone is a National Monument (no. 293) in state ownership. It consists of a massive upright slab (H 2.7m; Wth 1.8m; T 0.25m at N end; 0.45m at S end), with two broad flat faces, and a thin, wedge-shaped cross-section; its long axis is aligned N-S. It is relatively straight-sided for most of its height, but is slightly narrower in width at the base (Wth 1.7m), and tapers slightly to a gently rounded, thin-edged top.
There is a possible standing stone (MA040-111----) 90m to W, and a stone row (MA040-092----) 120m to SW.
