What is recorded here

In pasture, located on a low ridge. This rath is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a ringfort-like circular enclosure, and on the 1930 edition as a broadly oval enclosure (35m NE–SW; 30m NW–SE) enclosed on the S half by a fosse, and incorporated into a field boundary on the E arc. It was levelled in the 1980’s; there is no visible trace at ground level. According to local information it was enclosed by an earthen bank. Another rath (MA039-005----) is located on a higher ridge c. 200m to NW. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 4 September 2019
