In rough, wettish pasture bordering the River Deel, which is 20m to S. Ground rises gently to N.
This burnt mound is evident as a low, grass and moss-covered rise (diam. c. 6-7m; H 0.3m). A layer (D 0.2m) of black soil underlies the sod and overlies a concentration of heat-shattered stone in charcoal-rich soil. The exact limits of the mound are indistinct. Traces of cultivation ridges, on a N–S axis, traverse the mound and the surrounding area.
