What is recorded here

Located on a low rise in rolling grassland. This enclosure, which is known locally as the site of a 'fort', is not shown on the 1838 and 1922 OS 6-inch maps. The enclosure has been levelled, and its outline is poorly defined. It is evident as a roughly circular, slightly raised area (diam. c. 18-20m) defined at NNW-E by a low scarp (H 0.4m) and elsewhere by low, irregular curving undulations, merging at S with an area of rough, uneven ground. It appears to have been partly incorporated into field boundaries at NE, S and W in the past, but these too have been levelled, and are now barely discernible. A post and wire fence traverses the S edge. There is a rath (MA038-009----) is 120m to W. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 19 August 2019
