What is recorded here

In pasture, located on the S-facing shoulder of a prominent rise in an area of undulating terrain. Circular area (23.6m E–W; 21m N–S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.2m; int. H 0.6m at N, 0.2m at SW; ext. H 0.8m at N, 0.95m at SW) of earth and stone. The bank is very low internally at SW–W, and is reduced to a scarp in parts at E–S. Stones piled on top of the bank are probably the result of field clearance. Outside the bank at N there is a shallow depression (Wth 2.5m) that may be evidence of an enclosing fosse. The interior slopes down gently from N to S. There is a small heap of stones, most likely field clearance, in the W half. The perimeter is thickly ringed with hawthorn, hazel, and brambles, and there are clumps of brambles in the interior. A field fence skirts the rath at SE. There is a cairn (MA038-156----) c. 30m to SW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 25 July 2019
