Situated within an extensive area of peatland, in rough, mountainous terrain. An undated report by Liam Price (d. 1967) records ‘the track of an old road'. The road extended from two irregular-shaped hillocks, known locally as ‘sídheán leathan’, westwards for c. 100m towards a possible barrow (MA036-001----), known as ‘sheeaun’ or ‘sídheán’, and continued to SW towards a river and for a short distance beyond the river (NMI Topographical files). Inspected in 1997, it was found that a section of the roadway (Wth 2.7m; max. H 0.4m), constructed of peat interspersed with stone, could still be traced to the NE and SW of the possible barrow. A plantation of coniferous trees engulfs the road c. 60m to NE of the possible barrow. There is no evidence to suggest that this road is of any great antiquity.
