This gatehouse on a bridge (MA030-056001-) over the River Moy in Ballina town was still extant in the early 18th century, when it was recorded by Rev. William Henry (1739) as ‘a large square tower with a gate and guard room' rising from and controlling access to the bridge.
A modern bridge now stands at this location.
