What is recorded here

This record is based on an annotation "cairn" written in pencil above the placename Mullaghorn on an OPW copy of the 1838 6-inch OS map. This may simply have been a reference to a translation of the Irish name as "hill of the cairn", rather than an indication of the location of a cairn. There is no trace of a cairn in this area. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 14 December 2018

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
