Reported by Tom Fox, Teagasc, and inspected on 15th April 2011. Built into the face of an earthen face (H c. 2.2m) is a recess (0.7m x 0.6m), roughly circular in plan, with an opening facing south (Wth 0.6m; H 0.45m) set back 0.4m from the face of the earthbank which is faced with rough field stones (same as those used to build the structure). The opening is roofed by flat thin lintels and faced by dry-stone walling. It is 0.8m above current ground level and the field behind is 0.9m above roof level. Its purpose is not clear; the nearest structural feature is a bread oven but these are usually domed and built into the side of a fireplace. This could have been within a building which was set against the earthbank. It is located in the yard of a one-storey vernacular house which is still intact though now abandoned.
