In pasture, 161m SW of townland boundary with Knockaunacurragha. A barrow (LI049-238----) lies 200m to the SE. Not marked on OSi 6-inch maps. Site (site TR 2/12/1) identified after the removal of sod and topsoil on Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh West-Limerick gas pipeline (1988, 103). Excavated by Claire Walsh the results of which were summarised as following; ‘An arc of this feature 4.5n in length was exposed after removal of topsoil. It was 1.30m wide and survived to 20cm in depth with a gently curved profile. It had a heavily charcoal-flecked fill with lenses of ash. Excavation was limited to two small cuttings across the ditch as the site lay in a very wet area. No features were noted in the ‘interior’. There were no finds’ (Walsh 1987, 28). See attached plan taken from M. Gowen (1988, 103). Compiled by: Fiona Rooney Date of upload: 18 October 2021
