What is recorded here

The precise location of a chapel on John's St has not been identified. Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1989, 164) as following; 'Westropp (1904-5, 421) notes the existence of a chapel "between the bridge and St John’s Gate" in 1410. This was the church from which St John Street derived its name and since the street is attested in late thirteenth century documents the church was presumably in existence from that time (MacCaffrey 1907, 81)'. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
