Location of castle at Ballymurely, mentioned in late 16th century documents (Westropp 1906-7, 228), no longer known; Westropp suggests castle may have been rectangular earthwork known as Knockaunacappeen (LI037-027---) but also identifies Ballymurely with Maryville which lies c. 3.5 km to S of earthwork. In Maryville (part of Ballinruane townland) is a small field known locally as "the Castle Field"; however, no trace of any castle features in this field which is under pasture. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
