What is recorded here

In level pasture, on a slight E-facing slope. The site presently consists of a sub-rectangular level area (42m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by a low scarped edge on E and S sides, by a roadway to W and by an irregularly-shaped area of higher ground to N. In W side of latter is deserted one-storey dwelling house and ruined farm building; latter may be barn which Curry (OSL vol. 2, 22) says occupies site of castle. Otherwise the irregular raised area could be remains of tower and raised area ghost of bawn. Probably remains of an O'Noonan castle, confiscated after Desmond rebellion (Westropp 1906-7, 227-8; Dunlop 1924, 134). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
