What is recorded here

In improved pasture on the demesne lands of Newtown House, located 500m to W. Incorporating the area surrounding ring-barrow (LI033-167---), linear earthwork(LI033-097----) and enclosure (LI033-099----) within the townlands of Farranafina, Garryheakin, Rahard and Newtown North. Not depicted on historic OSi maps. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 85; AP 4/3624) as a field system. Visible as a pattern of rectilinear cropmarks, some perpendicular to each, extending into several fields (400m N-S x 400m E-W) visible on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 and on Google Earth orthoimage dated 20/09/2020. Many of the linear cropmarks appear to be the remains of drainage ditches rather than a pre-1700 field system. See attached Google Earth orthoimages and Bruff image showing monument labelled Bruff 85 Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 13 April 2021
