What is recorded here

The precise location of a cist within the townland of Lough Gur has not been identified. Mentioned by O’Kelly (1944, 24) as ‘cist graves’ and described by Lynch (1895, 290) as follows: ‘In a field now tilled near Lough Gur Castle [LI032-022034-] are many graves lined with stone’. O’Kelly (ibid) stated that, ‘It has not been possible to locate this site, but the quotation does not refer to the Kistvaen Field’. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
