What is recorded here

In level pasture in the NW corner of a field with numerous natural undulations 185m NW of the townland boundary with Monaster North. A ringfort (LI031-007----) is located 210m to ESE and a ringfort (LI031-006----) lies 165m to NE. The site is not depicted on OSi historic maps although it is visible on both on both the OSi orthoimages taken 2005-12 and on Digital Globe orthophoto taken 2011-2013. Identified by the ASI in 2008 during field survey of a ringfort (LI031-007----) in the same field. The site consists of a raised oval-shaped area (dims. 22m N-S; 26m E-W) enclosed by a levelled bank (Wth 14.9m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.75m) almost reduced to a scarp. Obvious entrance gap (overall Wth 10.0m; basal Wth 3.0m) at S. Interior slopes down gently from the levelled bank to a level area in the centre. Exterior of bank truncated by field boundary (orientated WSW-ENE) on the NW and N side of the fort. A second field boundary (orientated N-S) includes a deep drain close to the ringfort bank on the W side. Livestock erosion visible on the external face of the bank at SE. Possible traces of an external fosse visible from NNE-S. Raised area to S of entrance may be natural and forms terminus of fosse. The site is visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 16/03/2016 and 14/02/2020. See attached Google Earth orthoimages Compiled by: Edmond O’Donovan Date of upload: 28 October 2020
