Glenogra Br. — Ballyea (smallcounty By.),glenogra

The historic bridge at Glenogra was described in the Urban Survey of Limerick as following; 'The bridge crossing the Camoge to the north of Glenogra and called Glenogra Bridge is evidently old but it is difficult to be certain of precisely how old. It is quite possibly of pre-1700 date' (Bradley et. al. 1989, 139). Glenogra church (LI031-038005-) and castle (LI031-038004-) 480m to S A five-arched bridge which crosses the River Camoge was described in 1840 as following; ‘This bridge was built over the River Camoge, on the line of road connecting Limerick and Bruff, in the year 1754. It consists of five arches the centre one of which is about 13 feet [4m] above the water’ (OS Letters Fedamore Parish, 686, 701). Limestone plaque inserted into SW parapet wall of bridge with partially legible inscription which reads ‘ 79 This Bridge was built Anno Domini 1754 The Reverend Mr. Rich. Steers overseer …Gleeson’. A second plaque in the opposite NE parapet wall records that the bridge was repaired in 1899.
