In pasture, 285m to SW of a townland boundary with Rathmore North. A standing stone (LI031-020002-) lies 15m to N. Depicted on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a rectangular-shaped earthwork (56m NE-SW; 50m NW-SE). Described by Westropp (1916-17, 22; 1920, 375) as a low, straight-sided earthwork or fort of Norman origin. Described by O’Kelly (1944, 49) as: ‘A rectangular structure measuring 125’ by 100’ (38m by 30m) approximately. It is so densely overgrown as to be quite impenetrable, and hence accurate measurements are impossible. It seems to consist of an earthen bank surrounded by a fosse’. Monument is visible as a rectangular-shaped tree-planted earthwork with a rectangular-shaped cropmark (40m NE-SW; 34m NW-SE) adjoining to SW, on OSi aerial orthoimage taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 28/06/2018.
