Kilmacow Church (in ruins) — Kilmacow

Just E of centre in graveyard (LI030-084002-), ruin of church of which E gable (int. L 5.6m), most of S wall (int. L 18.4m) and part of N wall (int. L 11.6m), all that now stand; outside of walls heavily masked by ivy. Central window in E wall has single round-headed light, front of light has chamfered edge set back 0.08m from actual edge of light; embrasure inside widely splayed including semi-circular arch and base, though latter much broken. Small wall press on either side of window. Both N and S wall have similar and opposite embrasures: window 1.2m from E wall, and taller openings c. 6.7m from E wall. Window in N wall very similar to E window, as is S window though this very ruinous. Outside edge of taller opes entirely missing on both walls and both partially blocked up; both embrasures splay inwards including semi-circular arch overhead; the inside edge stones stop one course short of present ground level but otherwise these opes resemble doorways rather than windows and suggest transepts (complete masking of outside wall faces with ivy obscure possible scars left by transepts). A further ope in S wall reduced to featureless gap in wall. At foot of window near E end of S wall are some footing stones which may be remains of 'stone altar' noted by Molony (1905, 260).
