In improved pasture, on a gentle W-facing slope, c. 50m W of a townland boundary with Garrane More. Depicted as a rectangular -shaped field (approx. dims. 45m N-S x 38m E-W) and not as an antiquity on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map. Shown as a sub-rectangular-shhaped field on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map. Described by O’Dwyer (1959, 75) as a ‘slightly raised area surrounded by a low bank’. Monument surveyed by the ASI in 2008 and described as a raised, roughly D-shaped area (36m N-S; 34m E-W) defined by a low, levelled scarp (Wth 0.85m; H 0.25m), and fosse (overall Wth 2.45m; basal Wth 0.8m; D 0.15m) from ENE-E-S-SW and an outer bank (Wth 2.1m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.85m) with possible causewayed entrance at ENE. The enclosing bank is incorporated into field boundary along the W-side where there is a breach (Wth 7m) used as a modern gateway at N-end of W-side. The interior is generally level. Monument is visible as a subrectangular-shaped cropmark (47m N-S; 45m E-W) on OSi orthoimage taken 2005-2012, on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018. See attached Google Earth orthoimage 18/11/2018 and a sketch plan which was measured and drawn by the ASI in 2008. Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 26 September 2020
