What is recorded here

Depicted on the 1840 OS map as a small rectangular structure near the E end of an oval mound (c. 35m E-W; c. 20m N-S) but marked 'site of' on the 1928 OS map. According to Westropp (1906-7, 91) this O'Haynes' castle was 'repaired by Mr Hannan before 1826, and was levelled before 1840'. There is now no evident trace of the castle. A sheila-na-gig (LI023-040001-) is said to have come from this castle. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 13 November 2013
