The precise location of a castle in the townland of Ballyregan has not been identified. Westropp (1906-7, 152) recorded the following details about Ballyregan Castle; '1186 Baliiriagain con firmed to Abbey of Magio (C.S.P.L). 1583 C[astle]. held by T. Burgat in Ballechahen parish (Des. R., 7b; Peyton, 28; see also D.S.B., 22)'.
