Burial mound in Attyflin

The precise location of a burial mound on the estate belonging to Thomas Westropp's father in the vicinity of Attyflin has not been identified. Burial mound that removed around 1874 by labourers working on the Westropp estate and described by Westropp (1894, 74-5) as following; 'They were taken down about 1876, from the accounts of three old labourers, who had assisted more than twenty years before in the removal of a small mound, a few hundred feet S.E. of the house, the place being then let to a tenant. The "Kyle" was about 10 feet [3m] high, and was covered with bushes; when dug into it proved to contain a vast mass of fragments of bones and charred wood, also some skulls, which very soon fell to pieces, and broken "crocks", perhaps urns, in which case the mound may have been prehistoric.
