Exact location of Callow Castle, described in early 17th century as 'a sufficient residence' (Westropp 1906-7, 209), is not known. This castle was besieged and taken by General Purcell in July 1641 (Westropp 1907, 161).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
