Westropp (1906-07, 88) recorded the following details about Ballyneety or Whitestown Castle; '1619 Edm. Comyn held Whitestown C[astle]. At his death his son W. succeeded. 1655 Whitestown, alias Ballyneety, Castle. in Luidenbeg held by Lau[rence]. Comyn (D.S.A., 14, 26, C.S., xxi., p. 37). 1666 To Duke of York. 1702 To Alderman Rob. Twigg'. Tower-house like castle depicted in Whitestown alias Ballyneety on the 17th century Down Survey map of Clanwilliam Barony (Hib. Reg.) and on the parish map of Luddenbeg (NLI MS. 718). The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick recorded that Lawrence Comyne of Whitestowne, an Irish Papist, was the owner of these lands (Simington 1938, 85).
