What is recorded here

The precise location of Owney Castle in the townland of Abington has not been identified. The medieval castle was probably located somewhere close to the medieval settlement (LI014-014001-) of Owney possibly between Abington bridge (LI014-014008-) and the Cistercian abbey (LI014-014002-) of Owney (Seymour 1907, 367). In 1452 the annals recorded that 'The Earl of Ormond, Lord Justice of Ireland, broke down the castle of Owny upon O'Mulrian' (AFM, 979).
