Souterrain identified as Group 7 by Goorik Dehaene (Licence 07E0369) during archaeological testing undertaken in advance of a housing development located approx. 75m NW of Mungret ecclesiastical site (LI013-009008-). The results of the excavation were summarised as following; 'Group 7 is a souterrain, a possible kiln, associated pits and a linear feature. These features were located in the centre of the site. The souterrain was identified by an intact ‘drop-hole’ with a chamber extending northwards. No further investigation of the souterrain was conducted. It is assumed that the pits, kiln and linear feature are associated with the souterrain activity’(www.excavations.ie 2007, Site No. 1151; Dehaene 2010, 303).
