The precise location of Ballyeaghera Castle in the townland of Ballycarney has not been identified. Castle not depicted and is not named on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. Westropp (1906-7, 147) recorded the following details; 'Unknown; probably in Ballycarney. 1583 C[astle]. named. 1640 Lease to J. Dowglass of Ballyvolloge and Ballycherna. 1655 He claimed the interest on behalf of his wife (daughter and heir of F. Sexton) and their daughter, against H [Henry Bouchier]., Earl of Bath (C.S., p. 21)'.
