The precise location of Ballybrown Castle in the townland of Ballybrown has not been identified. Castle not depicted and is not named on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. Westropp (1906-7, 148) recorded the following details about this castle; '1583 C[astle]. named. 1655 Held by Marg. Bryne and G. Comyn (C.S., p. 23 ; D.S.B., 26)'. There is no mention of a castle in this townland in the 1654-56 Civil Survey of Limerick (Simington 1938, 386).
