The precise location of Knocknagorteeny Castle within the townland has not been identified. Possible castle site described by Westropp (1906-7, 100) as following; 'See 1552, 1562, 1592 grants. C[astle]. named in Inq. Exch., 36. Townland only in Surveys (C.S., xxx., p. 2). A doubtful site'.
