O'Flaherty (2010, Fig. 3, 28) recorded the following details about the medieval Tholsel located at the junction of Mary St and Gaol Lane in Limerick City; 'Tholsel, junction Mary St/Gaol Lane (80057505). Tholsel 1406 (Westropp 1898, 41). Built or rebuilt in 1449 (Ferrar 1767, 20). Tholsel or courthouse 1629 (Sexten MS, 89). Rebuilt in 1640 (Shirley, 443). Courthouse or Town Hall, formerly town clerk’s hall, with gatehouse 1654 (CS). Town Hall, offices transferred to City Courthouse premises in 1654. Ruinous, rebuilt in 1664 (Dineley, 443). Converted to City Gaol (q.v.) after 1673 (Hill, 1991, 52). Illustration 1681 (Dineley MS, 140). Demolished in c. 1740 (Potter, 2006, 68)'.
