The Urban Survey of Limerick recorded the following details about St. Marchah’s Church; ‘This is mentioned only once, in the list of churches belonging to the Templars in Ireland made in 1212 when it is listed as "Sancti Marchah Limericensis" (MacNeill 1932, 140). It is possible that the reference in the inquisition of 1201-2 to "Sancti Marci Rotunda" also relates to this church (MacCaffrey 1907, 27). Lenihan (1866, 661) following White states that the templary was located in Quay Lane but the absence of any mention in the dissolution documents makes such a long-lived tradition doubtful’ (Bradley et. al. 1985, 327).
