Two medieval walls were exposed, with a stepped platform between them, overlying a flagged surface, during pre-development excavation (Excavation Licence number 96E0160). Both walls were faced on both sides to below water level. This probably represents the remains of a waterfront structure associated with the Franciscan Friary. (Murphy 1998, 128)
